Experiences with the MPEG2 Camcorder Sony DCR-IP7E in the field

The camera is light and very handy.
Under hot and humid conditions no problems with the camera.
Low quality of sound (due to no connection of an external microphone).
Therefore sound quality (due to machine noise and distance from subjects) is unacceptable!
T he small button control is inconvenient.
In sum, advantages of

(a) filming directly in MPEG2 format (especially in that this allows digitization in the field)

(b) having such a small camera, BUT the disadvantage of poor sound (and imperfect screen image) make the camera unusable for serious fieldwork.
