Mpeg2 camera test

Experiences with the MPEG2 Camcorder Sony DCR-IP7E in the field

  • The camera is light and very handy.
  • Under hot and humid conditions no problems with the camera.
  • Low quality of sound (due to no connection of an external microphone).
  • Therefore sound quality (due to machine noise and distance from subjects) is unacceptable!
  • T he small button control is inconvenient.
  • In sum, advantages of
(a) filming directly in MPEG2 format (especially in that this allows digitization in the field)
(b) having such a small camera, BUT the disadvantage of poor sound (and imperfect screen image) make the camera unusable for serious fieldwork.
