Singpho/Tai/Tangsa



Lukam Tonglum and Stephen Morey

Stephen Morey is the director of the project. He has a PhD in linguistics from Monash University, and is a postdoctoral fellow at the Research Centre for Linguistic Typology, La Trobe University. He works on languages of North East India (Tai, Singpho and Tangsa) as well as Aboriginal languages of Victoria, Australia.

 
Jürgen Schöpf and Palash Nath

Jürgen Schöpf is the ethnomusicologist in the team. For his PhD he studied music in Botswana. His current assignement is with the Phonogrammarchiv, the world's first sound archive, in Vienna, Austria.
His experience in field work and sound engineering is also valuable to the DoBeS team.

Chaichuen Khamdaengyodtai is an expert in Tai languages of all parts of South East and South Asia and a leading scholar in the interpretation of Tai manuscripts. He has contributed hugely to the project by his translations of particularly Tai Ahom manuscripts, and also Tai Phake, Tai Khamyang and Tai Aiton manuscripts and songs.

Palash Nath is a PhD student at Gauhati University in Assam, working on the development of Singpho orthography. He has been research assistant to the present project, as well as to Stephen Morey’s previous project on the documentation of Singpho and Turung.


 
Meenaxi Bhattacharjee and Chonja Tonglim

Meenaxi Bhattacharjee is Assamese but lives and works in Germany. She has recently joined the team and hopes to write her Ph.D. dissertation in anthropology on some aspect of Tangsa life and culture, besides participating in the activities of the team to further the main objectives of the project.

 
Karabi Mazumder, Tileswar Mohan and Zeenat Tabassum

Zeenat Tabassum is an MA graduate from Gauhati University, working towards a PhD candidature. She has worked on Tai Ahom, and is largely responsible for the Tai Ahom Dictionary and transcriptions of Tai Ahom manuscripts.

Karabi Mazumder is an MA graduate from Gauhati University, working towards a PhD candidature. She has worked on Tai Ahom.
