The Live Archives Initiative was started to redefine the role of archives in the digital era. The primary role of traditional archives storing physical objects was to preserve these objects which also meant to limit the access to them. In the digital era it is not the physical carrier that has to be preserved, but the digital content. Digital content, however, can be copied and accessed without the traditional loss of quality and information. Due to this fundamental difference digital archives should make their content easily accessible. In addition, digital archives should allow authorized users to enrich the content, i.e., add resources and comments in a way that the original content is not affected.

Digital archives should be seen as centers for all sorts of information around the resources stored. Of course, it is essential that all digital content will be preserved including the various references that relate the different resources with each other. If you support these ideas , please, support the Live Archives initiative.
