Control of sentence production: The Cop and the Mini-Cop

Gary Del - Department of Psychology, University of Illinois, USA

Production is controlled globally by the "cop", and serial order within a sentence by the "mini-cop". The mini-cop, I argue, is implemented by sequential schemata or "frames", and I review such conceptions.  I conclude with some ideas and data involving focused attention on a single word of a multiword utterance and argue that this focus consists of manipulation of the frame, rather than activation of the focused word.
