Studium Generale at the MPI for Psycholinguistics
Lectures series for PhD students of the MPI, the International Max Planck Research School, the Donders Institute and students attending the MSc Cognitive Neuroscience programme.
As from March 24th 2010, Pieter Seuren has started a series of lectures about selected topics within the fields of philosophy, history and culture at the MPI for Psycholinguistics in a classical studium generale framework. The lecture series is especially intended for PhD students of the MPI, the International Max Planck Research School, the Donders Institute and students attending the MSc Cognitive Neuroscience program. More elderly members of the institutes involved are also invited to take part and to contribute, either by giving a talk themselves or by supplementing the lecture given.
The studium generale will consist of specific topics, each dealt with during one or more of the fortnightly sessions. Topics to be presented will include: Around Aristotle and Alexander, The Stoa, The Roman Empire, The expansion of Islam, The European expansion, The mechanisation of physical theories in physics and in medicine, The mechanisation of psychological theories, The development of literacy, The emergence of standard languages, The history of democracy, etc.
IMPRS students will earn 1 ECTS point per 28 hours spent on these lectures.
