About MPI

The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics is an institute of the German Max Planck Society. Our mission is to undertake basic research into the psychological, social and biological foundations of language. The goal is to understand how our minds and brains process language, how language interacts with other aspects of mind, and how we can learn languages of quite different types.

The institute is situated on the campus of the Radboud University. We participate in the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, and have particularly close ties to that institute's Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging. We also participate in the Centre for Language Studies. A joint graduate school, the IMPRS in Language Sciences, links the Donders Institute, the CLS and the MPI.

Formalities

Before coming to the Netherlands, it might be required, depending on your nationality, to first arrange the necessary visa procedures for obtaining a residence permit and/or work permit.

As immigration regulations frequently change, it is advisable to always first check the latest regulations with the Dutch Embassy/Consulate in your home country or contact Angela Heuts in the MPI Administration (heuts@vw.mpi.nl).

As it also is very important for the Institute that you have the correct paperwork for staying and working in the Netherlands, you will also be informed by our Administration about the necessary procedures that have to be followed before coming to the Netherlands.

Please find below an overview of the most important actions that have to be taken before and upon your arrival in the Netherlands.
