NEW travel ticket - OV chipkaart:
In the Netherlands a new card, called OV chipkaart, has been introduced for travel by all public transport (bus, tram, metro, train). With this card it will not be necessary anymore to buy separate bus-, tram-, metro- or train tickets.
There are 3 kinds of OV chipkaart available. For more detailed information please check OV chipkaart.

Train:
Almost every Dutch town is accessible by train. Day return tickets are cheaper than other tickets, but you must return the same day. You can buy your ticket at the ticket machine and at the NS service desk.
There is also the so called ‘Voordeelurenkaart’, which costs Euro 60,- a year. This card entitles the user to a reduction of 40% on trains after 9 am from Monday through Friday (during the summer holidays also before 9 am) and on weekends during the whole day.

Taxi:
Although there is a taxi stand at the railway station, taxis are usually ordered by telephone. It is not customary in the Netherlands to flag down a taxi on the street.
