About MPI

 

The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics is an institute of the German Max Planck Society. Our mission is to undertake basic research into the psychological,social and biological foundations of language. The goal is to understand how our minds and brains process language, how language interacts with other aspects of mind, and how we can learn languages of quite different types.

The institute is situated on the campus of the Radboud University. We participate in the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, and have particularly close ties to that institute's Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging. We also participate in the Centre for Language Studies. A joint graduate school, the IMPRS in Language Sciences, links the Donders Institute, the CLS and the MPI.

 

Wie zijn wij?

Uniek op de wereld

Het Max Planck Instituut voor Psycholinguïstiek is één van de meer dan 80 onderzoeksinstituten van de Duitse Max-Planck-Gesellschaft. Het MPI in Nijmegen is één van de weinige buiten Duitsland en het is het enige instituut in de wereld dat zich volledig wijdt aan psycholinguïstiek, het onderzoek naar hoe we taal produceren en begrijpen en hoe we deze vaardigheden leren als eerste of tweede taalverwervers. Het instituut heeft nauwe banden met het Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour in Nijmegen.

Multidisciplinair onderzoek

Onderzoek naar taal is zeer multidisciplinair. Onderzoekers zijn afkomstig uit disciplines, variërend van antropologie, taalkunde, psychologie en neurowetenschappen tot genetica, computer wetenschappen en archiveringstechnologie.

Internationale sfeer

De sfeer op het instituut is internationaal. Onderzoekers komen van over de hele wereld - er zijn zo'n 20 nationaliteiten - en er wordt veelvuldig samengewerkt met collega's in de VS, Europa, Australië, Korea, China en Japan. Uiteraard werken wij ook samen met de andere Max Planck Instituten (waaronder die voor evolutionaire antropologie, cognitie- & neurowetenschappen, biologische cybernetica, sociale antropologie en wetenschapsgeschiedenis.).
