2011 IMPRS for Language Sciences fellowships
The International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Language Sciences is now looking for excellent students to take up three fellowship positions in September 2011.
December 9, 2010
The IMPRS for Language Sciences is a research school based at the Max Planck for Psycholinguistics, in cooperation with two partner institutes at Radboud University Nijmegen, the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, and the Centre for Language Studies (CLS).
Each year, a new group of PhD students from the partner institutes takes part in the enrichment activities and multidisciplinary training programme of the IMPRS. These students are based at either MPI, the Donders Institute or CLS, and gain additional benefit from the supportive community of the IMPRS for Language Sciences. Upon completion of their doctoral work, IMPRS students receive a special joint diploma from the research school.
Three of these PhD positions are funded by fellowships from the IMPRS for Language Sciences. The call for applications for the 2011 fellowships is now open until Thursday, January 6, 2011.
Promising candidates
Els den Os, coordinator of the IMPRS for Language Sciences, explains, 'Our vision is to bring together students within the broad field of the language sciences to give them the multidisciplinary background they will need to become leading researchers. In 2010 we had many promising candidates from 35 different countries apply for our fellowships. This year we are hoping for a comparable response.'
One of the three students awarded a PhD fellowship in 2010 was Rósa S. Gísladóttir. She is now based at the MPI for Psycholinguistics and is currently finalising the topic of her research project. Rósa says, 'I applied to the programme because of the reputation of the institutions involved and because the MPI for Psycholinguistics is the best place to go for multidisciplinary perspectives on language. I like the IMPRS because it really makes the most out of this unique research environment and gives me access to all of the great resources and researchers in the partner institutes.'
