Dingemanse finalist in 2008 AAA Photo Contest
Mark Dingemanse, PhD student of the MPI Language and Cognition group, was recently selected as a finalist in the 2008 AAA Photo Contest - an annual photo competition of the American Anthropological Association.
Dingemanse's photo 'Kããã' was one of 20 finalist pictures (selected out of 300) and appeared in the March issue of Anthropology News. Among these photographs, the judges found his images particularly strong, commenting that they conveyed his anthropological work in a visually engaging way that demonstrated clear photographic skill.
'The title of my finalist picture is simply Kããã, to honour the beauty of the Siwu language, which provides a word that evokes exactly this way of looking attentively', says Dingemanse. Siwu is a language spoken in Ghana, Africa.
