My research focuses on cross-modal metaphors, particularly in the auditory domain: Why can a voice be SOFT, a timbre DARK or a pitch HIGH? I am interested in the role of language with respect to these cross-modal associations: Does language “mirror” cross-modal experience? Or can language also modify the way we represent cross-modal associations? In order to find out, I combine cross-linguistic psychophysical methods, fMRI experiments and infant studies.
