My origins are in the role of prosody, intonation in particular, in the acquisition of language. I am specifically interested in to what extent language learning infants and children do use the prosodic aspects (including e.g. rhythm, timing, intonation, pitch range, intensity etc.) in order to learn and to understand not only language, but also the communicative intention.
My research focuses on the question of whether children use vocalizations to communicate, even before they have acquired language. To do so, I experimentally analyze the acoustic properties of the vocalizations of infants between 10 and 14 months in different kinds of social contexts.
