Martine Hoogman
I have a background in clinical neuropsychology and therefore my primary interests are cognition and brain functioning but during my PhD project I developed a growing interest in genetics. My goal is to integrate these interesting research areas and, as a result, discover more about the neurobiology of human behavior and psychiatric disorders.
Currently I’m working as the project/database manager of a project called Brain Imaging Genetics (BIG) and am based at the Donders centre for cognitive neuroimaging. BIG is one of the largest projects in the world studying associations between genes and brain structures, having included data of over 2500 subjects. In addition, cognitive and behavioral data are also available for these subjects. This makes BIG a great source for studying many imaging genetics and behavioral genetics topics.
Next to working with BIG, I'm studying the association between candidate genes for Dyslexia and Specific Language Impairment (SLI) and brain anatomy in healthy adult subjects. This way I hope to unravel the underlying neurobiological mechanisms of Dyslexia/SLI.
