I am genuinely interested in how language unfolds in social contexts. Social characteristics of the speakers have been shown to alter the perception of what is said, as well as the predictions about what is going to be said. Furthermore, lexical choices vary from speaker to speaker, and from social group to social group, suggesting the potential existence of differences in how we store and retrieve lexical items depending on who uses what. Therefore, in my research project, I aim at understanding how encoding and storage of newly learned lexical items, as well as predictive mechanisms, are modulated as a function of the speaker's identity, and more specifically of the speakers' group membership.
