Student assistant needed in Neurogenetics

Open part-time position The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics (Nijmegen, the Netherlands) is offering a part-time position in the innovative field of Language & Genetics. A part-time student assistant is sought to join the group of Sonja Vernes within the new, state of the art Neurogenetics of Vocal Communication Group (http://www.mpi.nl/departments/neurogen), investigating the genetic underpinnings of language and communication. The position will be a support role mainly involving histological lab techniques.

Full training will be provided and cover a range of histological techniques;

  •  Cryotome sectioning
  • Microtome sectioning
  •  In-situ hybridization
  • Paraffin immunohistochemistry

Very good manual dexterity is needed for these techniques but applicants do not need any prior professional experience. Some practical lab experience in histology would be an advantage but not necessary as all training is provided.

People with histological expertise are highly sought after when applying for jobs in science, thus this position offers an excellent opportunity for career development.

The position is available beginning immediately, with flexibility on start date. The position will be part time – between ~8-12 hours per week. The number of hours and the days/hours of work are very flexible so they can be set according to your study schedule. Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student and preference will be given to candidates who will continue to be enrolled for at least 1 year. We particularly encourage applicants at an early stage of their degree who would like a flexible but stable part time position.

The Max Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer. Applications from women, people with disabilities and under-represented groups are particularly encouraged.

Applications should include:

(i) a current CV

(ii) the names and email addresses of two referees (or letters of reference)

Please send applications asap to: Ms. Evelyn Veen (Secretary to Dr. S Vernes) via e-mail: evelyn.veen@mpi.nl

About MPI

This is the MPI

The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics is an institute of the German Max Planck Society. Our mission is to undertake basic research into the psychological,social and biological foundations of language. The goal is to understand how our minds and brains process language, how language interacts with other aspects of mind, and how we can learn languages of quite different types.

The institute is situated on the campus of the Radboud University. We participate in the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, and have particularly close ties to that institute's Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging. We also participate in the Centre for Language Studies. A joint graduate school, the IMPRS in Language Sciences, links the Donders Institute, the CLS and the MPI.
