Subprojects

The information status of referential expressions

The following subprojects deal with the acquisition of means marking the distinction between given and new information in discourse.

  1. Pronominal resolution in first and second language learners
  2. Intonation and reference maintenance in L2
  3. Word order in child language
  4. Acquisition of ‘givenness’ intonation in German
  5. Reference resolution in L1 and L2 Dutch and German

Scope and Finiteness

The following subprojects deal with the acquisition and use of scope bearing items, including finiteness marking.

  1. Additive and contrastive relations in L2 discourse
  2. Scope particles and information structure: perspective taking in L2 discourse
  3. The effects of fronting
  4. The acquisition of finiteness

 

Topic and Focus

The following subprojects deal with the acquisition of topic and focus marking.

  1. Intonation of topic and focus in child language
  2. The role of intonation and syntax in focus interpretation in children
  3. Interface between word order and intonation in children's focus marking

 

Members of the information structure project are also part of larger European research projects.
