General Information

This version of Arbil manual focuses on creating collections of CMDI instances. These can be edited and converted into an archivable format to be exported on your local disk or to be submitted to a metadata repository. CMDI instances mainly comprise of profiles and components.

In addition to create collections of CMDI instances, Arbil allows you to view all the collections in the Archive or any other remote location (provided you have access rights). As well as to edit collections from a remote location.

In short, Arbil allows you to:

1) View remote locations

2) Import metadata from the Archive & edit.

3) Create new collections, with new metadata and media files.

4) Export the CMDI files, ready to be archived

Changes you make to remote metadata will not affect them directly, as Arbil merely allows you to make changes on a local level, and not at a remote level.

Arbil is the next generation of the metadata editor with a more powerful user interface and functionality. This manual contains detailed information on how to use Arbil in order to create new collections of CMDI instances and modify existing ones. It does not explain the internal structure of CMDI (for more information on the CMDI metadata, please see the Clarin website).

For a less detailed program description, see the Arbil User Guide.

You can access all the informations present in this manual from the application itself, using the Help Menu. There you will also find additional informations about technical topics.

We encourage you to provide feedback, comments, and suggestions so that we can improve the documentation to better meet your needs. Also, in case of problems that are not addressed anywhere in this guide, please use the Arbil Forum.
