Release notes for COREX version 6 March 2004 This is release 6 of COREX, the explotation software provided for CGN version 1.0. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- New in this release is: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Lexicon tool This tool is a source of additional lexical information. A result of a quiery in the lexicon can serve as a starting point for a subsequent query in the CGN annotations. * Syntax search The syntactic annotations can be viewed and searched by using Tiger Syntax viewer and Tiger Search. These programs have been integrated in COREX. * Prosodic search It is now possible to apply viewing options and search options to the prosodic unit, in addition to the word unit and the annotation unit. * Windows98 is no longer supported with this version of COREX. * Hardware requirements have changed because of the increased amount of data available in this release. See "REQUIRED HARDWARE" below. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ANNOTATION FILES IN XML AND PLAN TEXT FORMAT --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The DVD "CGN_ANN_V1.0" includes all the available CGN annotation files in XML format as well as plain text format. They are stored in compressed form and you can uncompress the using the gzip programme (see http://www.gzip.org for executables for various platforms) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- REQUIRED SOFTWARE & HARDWARE --------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the windows platforms COREX will install its own Java and Perl versions. For the UNIX variants (MacOS X included) you will need to provide your own versions of Java (version 1.4 or higher) and Perl (version 5.6.1 or higher) and adapt your path so that these programmes can be found. Hardware requirements: Disk Space: 1.9 GB of disk space. Memory: at the very least 128 MB of internal memory. Processor: > Pentium III 1 GHz You may try less powerful platforms but be prepared to be patient. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- AVAILABLE EXTENSIONS --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using the COREX programme together with the "Praat" programme imposes more speed and memory requirements. Be sure to keep the list of data objects within Praat to a minimum. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- USER MANUAL AND TUTORIAL --------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are both a user manual and a tutorial available on the annotation DVD. Updates will be placed on the COREX website: http://www.mpi.nl/COREX --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- KNOWN BUGS & BUG REPORTS --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. TigerSearch A very limited number of annotation units can not be displayed after being found by TigerSearch. These are: fn000155.44 fn000175.6 fn000600.138 The cause seems to be something inside the TigerSearch software and we will submit a bugreport concerning this. 2. Playing audio from the Corex viewer. Playing a short segment of audio sometimes overshoots the end of the selection. This is a general problem of JMF, the java library used to handle media. We will provide an update if it becomes available. For the latest news on "known bugs", see the COREX-website: http://www.mpi.nl/COREX/buglist.html Information on how to make remarks about errors in the COREX software can be found at the website http://www.mpi.nl/COREX --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- FURTHER INFORMATION --------------------------------------------------------------------------- For the latest news on "known bugs", "installation problems", "sofware updates", see the website: http://www.mpi.nl/COREX --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- RIGHTS, RESTRICTIONS & GUARANTEES --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This software version is for use with CGN annotation & audio data. All other use is unsupported. All commercial use is prohibited. This version is delivered as such and no claims are made concerning the functionality of the software except that we will try to remove bugs and provide a functioning version. Where the term functioning will be defined in consultation with the proper CGN management. © Max Plank Institute for Psycholinguistics Wundtlaan 1 6525 XD Nijmegen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
