Part-time Student Assistant, Population Genetics of Human Communication

Student Assistant
Language and Genetics
part-time

The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics is offering a part-time student assistant position in the Population Genetics of Human Communication research group. The host research group, led by Dr Beate St Pourcain, investigates the genetic basis of social communication, language and interaction in large population-based and clinical cohorts and is embedded in the Language & Genetics Department at the MPI.

Job description

The work will involve data download, management of data sets, preparing data access requests, annual reports and individual study reports. The successful applicant will support the management of large data sets held within the PGHC group and, more widely, the Language & Genetics department. This will involve data download, quality control and management of data sets, especially for genetic and phenotypic data, as well as the harmonization of data structures across multiple cohorts. This provides an exciting opportunity to become acquainted with large omics data and R/shell programming. The successful candidate will also help to prepare data access requests, annual reports and individual study reports in support of an open science policy. The position is available from September 1, 2022.

Requirements

Applicants do not need any prior experience. English reading and writing skills are essential as well as good organizing skills with an eye for detail. Familiarity with Linux and Windows computing systems is an advantage.

The position is available starting September 1, 2022 and will be part-time for 16 hours per week, at an hourly rate of Euro 10,91 (undergraduate) or Euro 12,68 (with Bachelor degree). The contract will be initially for 6 months, with a possibility of extension.

Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student and preference will be given to candidates who will continue to be enrolled for at least 12 months. We particularly encourage applicants at an early stage of their degree (Bachelors or Masters) who would like a flexible but stable part time position.
