On Sunday 22 February 2026, Bibliotheek Mariënburg in Nijmegen will once again turn into a lively language laboratory during the sixth edition of the Kletskoppen Festival.

Researchers from Radboud University and our Institute invite children and their families to explore the fascinating world of language science in playful and surprising ways.

The festival opens at 09:30 with The Colour Monster (Het Kleurenmonster), a beautiful, wordless theatre performance by Theater Stof that brings the well-known picture book to life through music and puppetry. Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities: crack codes in an exciting Escape Room, carry out experiments at the Science Market, learn how people communicate, or discover how to “talk” with AI.

Children can also solve the mystery of the Language Stone, take part in a sign language workshop, stroll through the Talking Street to learn how communication works, or listen to stories by renowned Dutch children’s author Jacques Vriens, including stories told in the local Nijmegen dialect.

There is plenty to discover for parents as well. Experts are available throughout the day to answer questions about topics such as language development and multilingualism.

The Kletskoppen Festival is open to children aged 2 to 12, (grand)parents, teachers, students, and anyone curious about language. No matter how well you speak Dutch, everyone is welcome. And everyone can join in the fun. Free entry, no registration required!
