Discover science with MPI & Donders at the Weekend van de Wetenschap
Under the title ‘Donders CityLab’s Safari - from DNA to Tickling’, the public is invited to roam through immersive, hands-on stations that bring brain, language, and biology research to life.
Here’s what you can explore:
- DNA & Tickle Lab
See your own DNA made visible, and brace yourself - can you be tickled under scientific observation? Why do we laugh when tickled? - Language Laboratory
Discover what cha cha cha and tea have in common, immersive yourself in an interactive VR Demo, follow your eyes whilst reading and bake a nasty cake! - Senses Room
Test how easily your brain can be tricked: are your eyes always trustworthy? What about your ears or tongue? - Art & Brain Room
Let your creativity run wild. Use your imagination and make art - and see how your brain gets involved when creating. - Mini‑Cinema (Het Klokhuis)
Take a seat in our mini-bioscoop and watch Klokhuis episodes that bring neuroscience, development, and human biology to life. - Brain Museum & Dr. Neuro
Wander through the permanent Brain Museum, join Dr. Neuro for guided explorations, and uncover fun facts about how your brain works.
This event is designed especially for families with children aged 4 to 14 - though there’s plenty to captivate curious minds of all ages. Participation is free of charge.
Why MPI & Donders are involved
Our mission as MPI, together with colleagues at the Donders Institute, is not only to push the boundaries of research into language, cognition, and brain function - but also to make science accessible and inspiring to the public. By participating in Weekend van de Wetenschap, we:
- Break down complex ideas (genes, language, brain) into fun, interactive experiences
- Invite young people and families to meet real scientists
- Increase awareness of the fascinating research happening right here at MPI and Donders
..and of course, we hope to plant seeds for future generations of scientists! Bring your family, bring your questions, and come explore science with us!
