Ekaterina Karaseva joined the Multimodal Language Department as a student assistant, where she will work on annotating data collected for Sho Akamine’s PhD project.

Ekaterina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from Leiden University and is currently pursuing the Research Master’s in Linguistics and Communication Sciences at Radboud University.

She was born in Russia and moved to Slovakia with her family at the age of nine — an experience that made her stop taking language and communication for granted, and become interested in how they work.

Her previous projects focused mainly on first (L1) and second (L2) language acquisition. After taking an elective in gesture studies, she became eager to deepen her understanding of multimodal communication.

Outside of research, she enjoys reading fiction.
