The Multimodal Language Department (MLD) at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics recently hosted Sign Lex Day, a dedicated workshop bringing together researchers working on lexical databases for sign languages around the world.

This dedicated workshop provided a crucial platform for experts to share experiences, address common challenges, and explore new opportunities. Key focus areas included database design, research methodologies, cross-linguistic comparisons, annotation practices, and tool integration.

Bringing together specialists working on American Sign Language (ASL), German Sign Language (DGS), Israeli Sign Language (ISL), Dutch Sign Language (NGT), Spanish Sign Language (LSE), and Turkish Sign Language (TİD), the event highlighted the global diversity of sign languages.

By uniting these varied perspectives, Sign Lex Day successfully fostered collaboration and strengthened the foundation for future advancements in sign language lexicon research and development.
