Beyza Nur Cay

I am a PhD student in the Multimodal Language Department at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, where I am working on the project "Interaction between Gestures and Prosody in Information Packaging: The Case of Focus Marking." My research is supervised by Dr. Asli Ozyurek, Dr. Hatice Zora, Dr. Judith Holler, and Prof. Amalia Arvaniti.

I hold a Research Master’s degree in Linguistics and Communication Sciences and a Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence, both awarded by Tilburg University. My previous research experience encompasses several projects in the areas of prosody, co-speech gestures, and cognitive linguistics. This work has examined phenomena such as prosodic variation across regional accents, the interaction between gesture and prosody, and experimental methodologies in the study of language and cognition.

My research interests lie at the intersection of prosody, gesture, information structure, and speech technologies. I am particularly interested in how multimodal cues, such as intonation and gesture, contribute to the structuring and interpretation of information in spoken communication.
