Micha Heilbron

Micha Heilbron is an Independent Research Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, where he heads the Language & Predictive Computation (LPC) group. He holds a part-time appointment as Assistant Professor of Cognitive AI at the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam Brain & Cognition.

His research sits at the intersection of cognitive science and AI. On one side, he uses AI language models as tools to model and to understand how the human brain processes language, combining neural networks with neuroimaging (fMRI, MEG) and behavioural data. On the other, he draws on psychology and neuroscience to build language models that are more cognitively faithful, learning from realistic data and constrained by the human cognitive architecture.
