OPEN PART-TIME POSITION Student assistant needed in Genomics Max Planck Institute, Nijmegen Neurogenetics of Vocal Communication Group

The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics (Nijmegen, the Netherlands) is offering a part-time position in the innovative field of Neurogenetics of Vocal Communication.

A part-time student assistant is sought to join the group of Sonja Vernes within the new, state of the art Neurogenetics of Vocal Communication Group (, supporting the Bat1k genome project.

The Bat1k consortium (of which Sonja Vernes is a director) aims to sequence the genomes of all living bat species (See our recent Nature news article: )

Getting this exciting new project off the ground requires support from a student assistant that will help coordinate this project, deal with administrative matters, organise samples and data and liaise with consortia members.

The position is available beginning immediately, with flexibility on start date. The position will be part time – between ~8-15 hours per week. The number of hours and the days/hours of work are very flexible so they can be set according to your study schedule.

Important: Applicants must be students who will continue to be enrolled in education for at least 9 months from the date of application. We particularly encourage applicants at an early stage of their degree (Bachelors or Masters) who would like a flexible but stable part time position. No experience necessary, but you must have good organisation and time management skills.

The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics is an institute of the German Max Planck Society. Our mission is to undertake basic research into the psychological,social and biological foundations of language. The goal is to understand how our minds and brains process language, how language interacts with other aspects of mind, and how we can learn languages of quite different types.

The institute is situated on the campus of the Radboud University. We participate in the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, and have particularly close ties to that institute's Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging. We also participate in the Centre for Language Studies. A joint graduate school, the IMPRS in Language Sciences, links the Donders Institute, the CLS and the MPI.
