Data Protection Coordinator (part-time)

Job description

As Data Protection Coordinator (DPCo) of the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, you are the local contact person acting as a consultant with regard to the design of local data protection-related procedures. You cooperate directly with the Data Protection Officer of the Max Planck Society and the local administration. You act as a point of contact for data protection issues for all members of the institute. Tasks involve:

·         To develop and continuously update documentation about data protection rules and their implementation in conducting research and publishing.

·         To review data processing procedures in existing and planned research projects and make sure that external and internal data protection regulations are followed.

·         To ensure the monthly training of new employees in Data Protection procedures and to inform all employees of recent developments during the quarterly staff meetings of the Institute.

·         To advise researchers on generating appropriate declarations of consent and information sheets for studies with human participants.

·         To help researchers identify the need for legal agreements and give advice when sharing of personal data with other researchers is involved.

·         To act as local coordinator in case a breach of data protection rules has occurred.

·         To maintain an open and transparent communication culture around Data Protection issues, act as direct contact point for all Institute personnel on matters relating to data protection, and as Institute liaison to the Data Protection Office of the Max Planck Society.

As Institute DPCo, you become part of a large team of DPCo’s of the Max Planck Society. This gives you the opportunity to get to know colleagues of other institutes and to share experiences. You will follow onboarding trainings and take part in the yearly Data Protection Conference of the Max Planck Society, along with other relevant (online) meetings.

Person requirements

1) Essential

• Near-native proficiency in German for correspondence with the German legal departments.
• Good proficiency in spoken and written English.
• A relevant degree or other relevant education or work experience (law, specialized courses focused on Data Protection, etc.)
• Knowledge of and affinity with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) guidelines and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain good professional relationships with colleagues from interdisciplinary research fields and diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

2) Desirable

• Good proficiency in Dutch.
• Experience with implementing GDPR guidelines in a research environment.
• Experience in an interdisciplinary research field and the diverse data flows that stem from this.
• Experience of designing and delivering GDPR-related communication to a broader public (e.g. researchers and staff).
• Knowledge of Good Scientific Practice regarding ethics and data management.
   

What we offer you

• Part-time position (16 hours per week) for 6 months, with the possibility of extension after review

• Starting gross monthly salary is approx. between EUR 3,895.33 and EUR 4,528.25, based on full-time employment (39 hours per week), as determined according to the German TVöD (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst), salary scale E10.

• 30 days’ holidays per year, based on full-time employment. In addition, we honour both Dutch and German public holidays.

• Enrolment in a personal pension scheme to which both employer and employee pay a monthly contribution.
