MPI Colloquium: Prof. Dr. Jonas Obleser

TITLE:
Predicting, perceiving, behaving – The neural dynamics of auditory cognition
ABSTRACT:
My research on auditory cognition centres around the listening mind, its neurobiological dynamics, and its role in human communication. In our studies, we assume that listening and speech comprehension in the human brain (1) transcend by far the classic auditory and language brain regions and (2) align closely with domain-general psychological and neural organisational principles. In this talk I will present recent behavioural and neuroimaging evidence that tests these principles and formulates question for the years to come: How can we better account for variability in listening behaviour between as well as within listeners? How do metacognitive abilities of monitoring one’s own auditory perception impact auditory cognition and communication? And, not least, how is human listening and communication blending in with the age of artificial intelligence?
