Daniel Dennett will deliver Nijmegen Lectures on October 15 and 16, 2018

We are happy to announce that world-renowned philosopher Professor Daniel C. Dennett has accepted to deliver the Nijmegen Lectures about Autonomy, Language, and Consciousness on October 15 and 16, 2018. The Nijmegen Lectures is an annual event organised by the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics and Radboud University.

Daniel Dennett is Professor of Philosophy and Co-Director of the Centre for Cognitive Studies at Tufts University in the United States. Dennett will be in Nijmegen to receive an Honorary Doctorate from Radboud University on Thursday October 18, 2018 – a great opportunity for the Nijmegen Lectures committee to invite him for two public lectures and additional expert discussions.

This is a first glimpse of the program:

Monday October 15

10:00 – 11:30      Lecture on Autonomy and Consciousness in Radboud  University Aula

14:00 – 16:30      Discussion Session at the MPI for Psycholinguistics

Tuesday October 16

10:00 – 11:30      Lecture on The role of Language in Human Consciousness in Radboud University Aula

14:00 – 16:30      Discussion Session at the MPI for Psycholinguistics

16:30 - 18:00       Poster session at MPI

All lectures and discussion sessions are free of charge and open to the public. Registration is required and will open in September.

The Nijmegen Lectures is an annual event hosted by the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour and Centre for Language Studies of the Radboud University Nijmegen. It showcases the best research in linguistics from around the world. Previous lecturers include Elena Lieven (Manchester University), Gary Dell (University of Illinois), David Poeppel (New York University), and Elizabeth Spelke and Susan Carey (Harvard University).
