The second webinar is planned on January 6th, 2021. Speakers are Petra Hendriks (University of Groningen), Cedric Boeckx (Catalan Institute for Research and Advanced Studies), Giosué Baggio (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and Emily M. Bender (University of Washington). With contributions from MPI Directors Caroline Rowland and Simon Fisher.

The Future of Linguistics

The directors of the Max Planck Institute in Nijmegen have identified the field of linguistics as the core area for the new department. Linguistics should in this case be construed broadly and include, for example, linguistic typology, theoretical linguistics, linguistic anthropology, computational linguistics, multimodal communication, language evolution. The aim of these webinars is to discuss in more detail what the promising developments are in the field of linguistics that should guide our search procedure.
